From the start of the flood to its recession, the wildlife seeking dry ground, lumber pallets floating down the street, our building becoming an island, the US/Canada border closed, and the Coast Guard airlifting three neighbors across the street. On December 11, 2025 while impacted by the Nooksack River flood of 2025 ... we watched as our building on 2nd street became its own island, completely surrounded by flood waters. Soon enough, wildlife began to scurry to the island for refuge, the most of which were bunnies. It was heartbreaking to see them struggle, but they all seemed to make it ashore.

On December 11, 2025 the Nooksack River crested at 150 feet, highest in its history. This caused a flood of magnitude in the Nooksack Valley, especially Nooksack, Sumas, Everson, Lynden, and Ferndale.
