Sumas, Washington – Boise, Idaho

A day’s journey departing from Sumas, Washington with my Mazda 5 setup for car camping and long-distance travel. Back staged for a night’s rest whenever, wherever. I’m headed to Travel Con 2025 – A conference for travel writers, bloggers, and adventurers in Tucson, Arizona. Hoping to up-step my travel tales and network with my community.

Departing the cold rainy atmospheric river impacted the Pacific Northwest for the “hopefully” warm desert environs of Tucson, Arizona. The last of our online orders/Ebays/Etsy/Amazon stores which are now on vacation for this two-week adventure. Deposited at the Sumas Post Office, gas up at the Tank n’ Tote, at $3.54/gallon. Then southbound through Bellingham, Burlington, and Mt. Vernon. Picked up a new power inverter from Camping World to keep my electronics flowing over travels. Seattle and Bellevue traffic, eastbound on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass. Weather station lied about the 8 inches of snow this morning, that almost re-routed me to Portland across the Columbia Gorge. But luckily I took the more streamlined path. Passed Easton where I was once snowed into my car for several days when snow/ice/ and accidents closed off Snoqualmie Pass years ago. PTSD every time I cross over this pass during winter. It’s an easy pass, such things should not happen.

Craving seafood, I sought out Quizno’s in Yakima to get a lobster sub-seafood fix for departing the coastlands. Visited the historic Teapot Dome Service Station for roadside attraction fun. The bridge crossed into Oregon, passed the Blue Mountains, followed the Oregon Trail, and pitstop in Baker City for my last trip to Grocery Outlet. Got a new cell phone holder for the car at $4, and snacks for the road. Then down through Ontario Oregon into Idaho. Pulled into the rest area and made an online order with Red Lobster to take advantage of its Monday special: Lobster tail, side, and Shrimp Scampi for $20. Still had a coupon for a free birthday dessert so got the Chocolate Wave Cake. 45 minutes later, pulled into the Red Lobster Red Curb pickup zone, grabbed my grub, then headed to the Quality Inn – a free night of accommodation through accumulated Choice rewards program points. Night of rest in Meridian, Idaho … played Dungeons and Dragons with my son over the phone/WhatsApp, and then called it a night. The trip is off to a splendid start!
