Sumas – Ferndale – Everson – Bellingham – Kent, Washington
Oisin was up early and finished his current episodes of “The Stand” and a new episode of “Bat Woman”. Not much done today outside of house cleaning. He didn’t feel that accomplished. Oisin prepared for his journey south when he’ll be picking up Cian after his delivery shift. No word from the main client so the web work on a downward curve, having to do deliveries to get the bills paid. Oisin discovered in the news that on January 26th – the new rule that travelers have to have a negative test within 72 hours of boarding a plane, these being the more expensive tests ranging from $85 to a couple hundred per test. Increase in travel costs with additional fees to budget travel. The need to renew a passport is nerve-wracking enough, but now Oisin has more to ponder and budget over with new high costs to go around the world. The family trip to Ireland is diminishing in possibility.
While outside it was a beautiful day. Threats of uprising/upheaval in the days preceding the inauguration. As Oisin was driving around he still saw Trump vote signs. Trump signs starting to be taken down around though, with a few remaining Biden signs in Bellingham along with a couple of Black Lives Matter signs. The Trump signs are slowly disappearing – a few still in Everson. Refreshing he thought. Throughout the whole Trump presidency, many of his political signs stayed up for the entire 4 years. Never understood that. Car flying an American flag with a Trump flag in Lynden. Lots of cars flying some flags. Lots of flags lined the small towns of Ferndale, Everson, and Lynden. No flags were spotted in Bellingham. Not sure why all the flags were put out. Flags up for a few hours, then gone by dark. Do some say it was for Martin Luther King’s birthday? If that’s the case, surprising the city didn’t fly more flags.
After the shift, Oisin grabbed a cider with Jack and had a sandwich, then drove down to pick up Cian. Cian’s mom had an X-Box system for Cian her friend gave her, so Dad took it to set up. The duo didn’t get home till after midnight and crashed as soon as they got home.
In the News: Many health experts claim that the vaccine is being undersold, it’s actually better news than most think. They also stated that the public could not be trusted to hear the truth about masks. They originally spread a misleading message discouraging the use of masks as they were afraid the public would rush to buy high-grade medical masks thereby leaving a shortage of Doctors and Nurses. This delayed the widespread use of masks and damaged public Health experts’ credibility. Vaccines were determined to be 95 % effective after 2 doses. Same as those for measles and chickenpox. They had to be careful, if the public didn’t use masks, ignored vaccination, and treated Covid like the typical flu – the world would spiral into decay. Many feel the government should be more aggressive about mask-wearing and social distancing to protect from the new variants. All people should be wearing masks in public until the pandemic is completely conquered.
