Little America, Wyomina to Albion, Idaho
Another day of shuffling E-school/Remote learning and drive time. They awoke at Little America, began packing up their room into the car, and prepped for Cian’s remote learning 2nd-grade main zoom class from 10-1230. They had Apples and cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast, orange juice, and a muffin. They decided to skip the morning’s swim, as Cian was too engulfed in his Roblox game before class. Oisin heard horrible news over social media about the loss of one of his good friends – Rebecca. She passed away. He was shocked and unsettled throughout the day.
They checked out of the hotel, got gas, and headed along I-80 towards Ogden en route to Miracle Hot Springs while on the way back to Techno Tink Headquarters in Sumas. Today would be the last day of school for the week as Cian’s teachers were in training tomorrow Friday. Clear skies ahead, they stopped off at the Utah welcome center rest area to finish Cian’s classes – doing his Music class online through zoom. Cian learned how to compose on the keyboard via the school laptop. He created some musical works.
After class, they stretched their legs, hiking to the top of a mesa hill, found a cairn, and dad taught son about Mullein, Sage, and other local botany. After the hike, gathering some sage for a smudge stick, they were back on the road hoping to make Miracle before it closed for the evening.

Cian’s musical composition using the keyboard xylophone following along with his teacher’s “Christopher Columbus” melody. They continue onward through Ogden and Utah, right into Idaho. They however were running too far behind due to the remote learning and having to stop for WiFi. Miracle Hot Springs would be closed before they could get there. They settled for exploring the “Haunted Mansions of Albion” in Albion Idaho instead for their evening rest stop.

By the time they got gas in Tremerton Utah, it was running too late. So they passed through Snowville Idaho – played Cian’s Dingdong game and missed their turn, detouring 30 miles mistake – so they missed Miracle’s hours. They diverted to Albion to explore the 5 large haunted mansions – themed haunted houses in an old mental institution and school. One of the buildings cited to be really haunted and wasn’t involving actors but exploring a haunted mansion. Idaho wasn’t serious about masks or social distancing Oisin noticed and that concerned him. He just figured the haunted tours would be following safety protocols, were in large ventilated facilities, and had masks in play. He was wrong. It was, however, one of the best-haunted houses that Oisin has been to – To Die for, literally.

In reflection, Cian had his own review of the Haunted Mansions: Scary but not that scary. He loved “Monster High” – the first one. Cian was brave and looked around the corners, leading the way in some. But he was terrified of the clowns and creepy dolls. Cian tried to hand one of the actor’s a flower, she wouldn’t take it. He did not like the Doll room. How creepy the clowns were. They discussed the haunted car, and how it reminded dad of Stephen King’s Christine.

Oisin’s review of the Haunted Mansions: It was “To Die For Literally”. There were 5 – the First was spooky – the best one Oisin thought. Haunted school. Social distancing was ok, but not that great. Really old buildings, while spacious – dusty and ventilation questionable. Actors still got in your face. The real haunted mansion was intriguing as exploring its history, rooms, and stairwells with a dying cell phone light. Chaos mansion – was intriguing. Interspersed groups going through, so Oisin and Cian able to go through alone. Mansion of Clowns – they didn’t like adults but did like kids they said, trying to unnerve Oisin. When Cian hit the doll room he was really scared. Cian was creeped out by the school building and barns. “Let’s get out of here” Cian kept echoing. Questioned safety. The final walk-through was a corn maze. Oisin thought it was Very well done. Rating: 5+ stars out of 5.
They exited Albion back to the highway, stopping at a rest area to camp in the car for the night. They had a fun weekend. Only haunted house they could do this year, as Washington state mandated closure of theirs for the year.
