Idaho – Oregon – Washington State, USA
Late last night, Oisin and Cian stopped for the night at the Oregon Welcome Center rest area car camping. Cian wanted to keep going, but Oisin was too tired to continue driving. This morning, they grabbed gas in Ontario, and breakfast through Starbucks – A ham and cheese croissant, a chocolate croissant, and a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappacino. They thought about stopping off at Medical Hotsprings outside of La Grande, but it was quite a detour, so they decided not to. They also wanted to see the Fairy Godmother in La Grande, but her shop, Faerie Beads, was not yet open, and didn’t want to delay their trip by waiting a few hours. They treaded onwards. They grabbed snacks from Grocery Outlet and continued playing Cian’s ding-dong car trip game. Cian loved blowing his hair in the wind by sticking his head out the window. They took I-84 to I-90, passing through Yakima and Ellensburg, then across the Cascades. They detoured for a Panda Express sign which took them on a half-hour delay, weaving over and into campus, where the fast food restaurant was located. It was unexpected. Oisin caught up with some friends on the phone. Cian made experiments with aluminum foil. Oisin was entertained with NPR news talking about the Black Duran Duran man.
In the news on NPR and the Wall Street journal, Oisin caught up with the Times. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Program, Trump refuses a virtual debate – pandemic or not, and the FBI foil a plot attempting to kidnap the Governor of Michigan. Domestic terrorism is on an increase in the United States. There were 13 men charged with the violent plot of storming the Michigan State Capitol to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Some believe critics were behind it that were upset with her attempts to control the coronavirus by restricting normal activities. President Trump added fuel to the fire by tweeting “Liberate Michigan”. Since May there have been reports of more than 50 people having driven vehicles into peaceful protestors. Armed groups have been battling in Oregon and Wisconsin, as well as Seattle. Extremists have attacked journalists covering the events. Violence is on an extreme increase as many believe violence is the only solution to accord their dislikes.

The Anti-Defamation Leaque has stated that of the 42 killings by political extremists last year, 38 of them were committed by right wing extremists. Top Republican politicians including President Trump, have encouraged the violence even moreso than Democrats. Trump refused to do online debates that were meant to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Trump referred to Senator Kamala Harris as a monster. Trump had been infected with COVID-19 himself, as well as his family, but he brushed it off – even his hospitalization at Walter Reed Medical Center.
