Renton – Bellingham, Washington

Another day like all the others for the week, Oisin awoke at 5:30 am, greeting Cian at 6:10 am, and taking a Nap together until 9. They then played toys, had breakfast, and Dad dropped him off to school by 10 am – late start Fridays as per usual schedule with the school. Dad packed up and checked out of the Air BnB as per usual.

Dad volunteered for the school as a Watch Dog … hanging out together, helping the teacher, playing chase – tag – and freeze with his classmates. The King was curious why so many people prefer Gold over diamonds, and which is more expensive? They googled and discovered that Gold was more valuable and preferred over diamonds. King Cian pleaded with his dad that come summer could they go back to that abandoned gold mine and town in Montana again?

Oisin and Cian spent the day at school as dad volunteered as a helper … but a few things happened at the school that got Oisin thinking. They were doing an excercise where students were to pick their skin tone in the assortment of construction papers, trace their hands, and cut them out. Some kids were confused as they couldn’t figure out their own skin tone, with teacher claiming that their skin looked more like this color and not that color. I grew up that you don’t emphasize differences like that and teach that we are all the same with varied highlights. Then they cut out chinese dragons and it was emphasized “No white!” – you must color in everything else. Just odd observations he thought in such a politically correct world where people get so bent out of shape for such things.

After school, Cian used his delivery money and allowance to buy two barrels of rainbow slime – colors separated, that he mixed together to make a “zombie ooze” or “demon slime” as he called them. They went on to Coulon Beach – playing at the picnic tables with it as to control the mess potential. They had a KFC picnic on the beach but it got too sandy, so went to the boardwalks instead. They used the exercise walkers/skis and on to the island, observed the Renton airfield, and Cian found a little girl to play with at the park. As it started to rain, they headed over to Starbucks where Cian built the Demon ooze trap.

After Cian’s mom came by the Starbucks to pick him up, Oisin headed north through a rain storm and severe bumper to bumper traffic home to the Mt. Baker Wilderness. Enroute he stopped at Grocery Outlet for sundries in Bellingham and Deals Only for bargain discounts. he fell off the wagon again stopping at the A&W/ KFC to partake of the discounted $2 Large root beer Floats to get his addiction fix. Back through the dark wilderness, snow, rain, and flooding … he made it home. He unloaded the car, did laundry, and settled into an evening binge-watching “Ted Bundy: Falling for a Serial Killer” series. Thoughts about tromping around the grounds where Ted Bundy hunted and his run-ins with the lore about the killer from the Phyrst, Tallahassee, Seattle, Colorado, and a hairstylist who spent time in jail with him made him creeped out and feeling weird. He passed out to the last couple episodes with weird dreams.
