Sumas – Bellingham, Washington

Early morning with great anticipation to get a lot done, Oisin was up by 6 am working on client web development. Then at 8 am he had an IEP meeting with Cian’s teachers to check on progress – Cian has been doing spectacular improvement and doing well with the remote learning. He’s now transitioning to hybrid-in-school as his mom wanted him back with her during her assigned time with him for the school year. Cian being with Oisin all of last year gave her little time with Cian, so she’s been over-anxious to get him back. She has him going to a YMCA day-care that will assist with remote learning, and then transfer him to the in-school hybrid program where Cian will be wearing a mask the whole time, socially distant, and separated from other kids. No eating/drinking while in presence of the other kids, then put him into an after-school daycare until she can pick him up there. Poor kid bouncing around now to daycares and school from 7 am to 5:30 pm. Really unfair, Oisin thought. He’s not comfortable with this, but it is what it is, he has no choice. It’s what his mom has to do to spend time with him. Though Oisin believes it would be better for Cian to stay with him until things return to the new normal.

So given Oisin will be kid-free for most of the month, he decided to take on a contract 3-week archaeological survey project in Findlay, Ohio. It will be the longest he’s been apart from the little one for over a year.

During web client work, Oisin began packing for the expedition east. Along the way, he hopes to schedule a J&J vaccination in Colorado. He is eligible in his home state of Colorado to be vaccinated, whereas in his second state of Washington he’s got an unknown number of weeks to wait before he qualifies. He wants to get the J&J because it’s the old school methodology of vaccination, as he’s wary of the new mRNA never before used method due to fears of long-term effects. It’s brilliant science and looks sound and proper, but the long term has not been tested obviously. All vaccines at this point are temporarily approved under Emergency Authorized use, so there is that. But he needs to be vaccinated now that Cian is back in school mixing with other kids, and if he wants to travel internationally it’ll be a requirement. Plus it’s the right thing to do for herd immunity, and for the community. So he’s signing up as a guinea pig.

Oisin notified clients of the upcoming travel time web development downtime and began preparing for the Quest of the American Giants. A visionary exploration into urban lore, mythology, sacred springs, and legends of Giants/fairy culture in the Americas.

After backup delays and issues, he dropped some shifts to hope to get caught up with preparations. He then headed into Bellingham for a Grubhub gig shift (3 pm – 9 pm | 6 hours), building gas funds and travel budget. He pit stopped at the Lawson street pantry, gaining a few Little Caesar pizzas and food for the expedition. The shift was prosperous and busy.

Runtime: 2 minutes, 8 seconds.

Continuing deliveries, he dropped the last hour and a half so as to get home to pack. It didn’t really work as exhaustion set in and after a dinner of pasta with chicken meatballs, he passed out. He did figure out the self-timing watering device for his house plants … setting it to drip water every 6 hours for about a minute and a half. He continued to copy files over to his portable tough drive for the trip.
