“Happy New Year” Oisin and Cian pondered … “Is it?” or is it 2020 – version 2? It was a stay-at-home, hang with a roommate kind of day. Oisin’s continuing resolution was to quit soda, think positive, and imbue more positivity into his life. The roads were littered with anti intoxication signs with lots urging people to turn in others who appear to be drinking and driving. Felt a strong police presence all around. Not sure why, because most are staying at home right now – bars and restaurants are mostly closed or shuttered, and what was open had early curfews. Oisin thought it was regardless a good farewell to the devastation that was 2020 for most of the world. Fireworks took to the skies and pounded the clouds and starscape. They popped out the front door to view and hear.
The vaccines for the pandemic are rolling out for medical professionals and essential workers, each getting their first doses. Shortages of doses and the inability to get the vaccinations out timely was a conundrum for the holidays. The US has fallen behind on its coronavirus vaccination campaign goals. The industry is stretched too thin. Too many politics at play as well as an acting President who doesn’t believe in science. This led to errors as 42 people were mistakenly given an experimental antibody treatment in West Virginia rather than the vaccine. Some got more dosage than they were supposed to as techs thought the vial was 1 dose instead of 5 doses. A Wisconsin hospital pharmacist purposefully removed over 500 vaccine doses from refrigeration to damage them useless as he believed conspiracies about the vaccines. Other countries have succeeded with their vaccinations – Israel might be the first country to have completed vaccinating their populace as of today over 10% of its population received the first of 2 Pfizer doses.
President Trump still refuses to concede to having lost the election to Biden. Numerous Republican senators have objected to and refused to certify the Electoral College results.
Oisin contemplated 2020 having driven the equivalent of 1.4 times around the world in distance doing food deliveries, work, and trying to escape the pandemic clicking out at minimally 35,161 miles. He finally saw that the stimulus check was posted to his account though pending to clear on Monday. Allison gave him a 2-day loan so he could rent a u-haul and clear out his storage over the weekend. Struggles with getting the 10K dollar grant from Grubhub application out – the website wasn’t accepting the video and timing out. He would up having to submit a text proposal with a link to the video. He worked on some client sites but overall took the day easy having with Allison, Brandon, and the kids. Ash and Cian played all day long, building small snowmen, playing in the snow.
Oisin decided again to quit soda and this time to think positively through the year drawing in only that energy. A little bummed they skipped Dark Lots, he still had a great day taking it easy. Dark Lots just seemed so intriguing …. 2 DJ rooms in a parking lot, outdoors, socially distanced, masked, but a place to dance.
Late afternoon, Allison and Oisin ran to their mail center to check mail, go to the Starbucks parking lot to try to upload the grant video, and then King Sooper’s for some drinks and propane for the fire. They grabbed takeout from Tequila’s … Oisin got Cian a beef burrito and a Seafood burrito for himself, Sopapillas for dessert. The burritos were ok, kinda overpriced. The sopapillas were yuck … flat and dipped in chocolate
Cian wouldn’t eat the beef burrito, so luckily Oisin grabbed some pre-heated cooked BBQ wings from King Soopers … so had that instead. Afterward, they hung out around the fire cheering in the New Year with egg nog and rum. They retired to watching the Tower Heist. Oisin worked on websites afterward until he passed out.
