Celebrating NYE 2012

Kilkenny, Ireland:
12:01 am: It’s a new year and time for  changes as I embark upon this new quest in life … and what oracles will prevail. This day began at midnight with a kiss from my fiance to welcome in the New Year as we embraced among family and friends at the Home Rule social club as we celebrated New Years with her cousins. Rounds of drinks constantly supplied to all … that would be Bulmers cider for me ..

Very interesting subjects prevailed as suggestions were told of me the local caves where vikings had the Irish trapped and many bones from their remains were excavated there. Eadaoin spoke of a Roman burial nearby we should check out in the morning.

Around 2:30 the few stragglers of us went off to one of their houses for some really good Irish cheese, smoked salmon, organic crackers, ham, and nuts appetizers with abundant champagne, wine, liquor, and Irish cream shared. Good times. I was in awe of Etain and her knowledge of faerie lore and the prehistory of Ireland … so many tales were told of the myths and legends of Eire. We played several rounds of cards, and had alot of fun and festivity.  As I started to fade I could hear the birds chirping outside, even though it was quite dark yet. After about 5:30 am, the four of us headed off to home for sleep. A cot with a sleeping bag was made up for me. As I took loads of asthma and allergy medicine to prepare for reactions to the cat, I passed out quickly. But good sleep was had by all.

We awoke around 11:30 am for a nice breakfast of tea, juice, weetabix, and toast.  A refreshing shower and we were soon off to explore the town of Kilkenny.

Eadaoin’s cousin showed us around Kilkenny as we took a walk up through town, along the river, by the town center, the brewery, the abbey’s, cathedrals, and churchyards. Some Irish wankers tried to bugger money off of us. We headed down towards Kyteler’s Inn where a famed witch was persecuted. Unfortunately, due to it being New Year’s day, it was closed. We did a pitstop in Dunn’s for some household sales, then made our way back to the car and bid farewell.

Dublin, Ireland:
As it was already 4:30 and darkness would soon be on the horizon, we skipped sightseeing and headed straight back to Dublin. Caught up on email and facebook, topping off the evening with watching “National Geographic’s Electronic Armegghedon”, “Vampire Diaries: Season 3 – episode 1-2”,  “The Thing 2011” and a yummy thai dinner. Good thing for left-over pad thai in the fridge!  It was not hard to pass out.
