This blog post is your ticket to experiencing a day in the life of the Chronicles of Sir Thomas Leif and King Cian, as we navigate the ups and downs of single parenthood and create lasting memories. This is an archive from 2019. So buckle up, adventurers!
Morning Fuel: Breakfast of Champions (McDonald’s Edition)
Our day kicked off with a pit stop at McDonald’s after checking out of our cozy Airbnb. King Cian, my awesome son, went straight for the classic pancake and sausage combo. Me? I needed something a bit more substantial, so I grabbed a sausage biscuit and a breakfast burrito. Hey, a guy’s gotta fuel up for a day of Watchdog duty!
Watchdog Duty: My Day as a School Volunteer
Speaking of Watchdog duty, that’s exactly where we headed next! I was volunteering at Cian’s school as part of their Watch D.O.G.S. program. Ever heard of it? It stands for “Dads Of Great Students,” and it’s a fantastic way for dads and father figures to get involved in their kids’ education. I got to help out with all sorts of activities, including some heart-cutting fun!
The original plan was for the kids to stay indoors due to the snowy weather, but they ended up getting a glorious 10 minutes of playtime during music class.
But the real drama unfolded when one of Cian’s classmates, a little African American girl, started hanging around me. Apparently, she had been a bit of a bully towards Cian in the past, and let’s just say he wasn’t thrilled about sharing my attention. Cue the jealousy and “hissy fits!” He even declared that I couldn’t be friends with her because of her past transgressions. Oh, the joys of elementary school politics! Navigating those waters definitely kept me on my toes.
Evening Entertainment: Alita: Battle Angel to the Rescue!
After a day of navigating the schoolyard, it was time for some serious entertainment. We were off to see Alita: Battle Angel!
First, though, we had to make a mandatory stop at Panda Express. And what’s Cian’s go-to order? You guessed it: his infamous orange chicken! I swear, that kid could live on that stuff.
Now, about Alita. I used my A-List membership to snag a ticket for myself. The only snag? The A-List makes it tricky to book for families. It’s tied to your phone number, so figuring out how to book two seats together on one account is kind of a puzzle. Here’s hoping they find a family-friendly solution soon!
Despite the booking hiccup, we both absolutely loved Alita: Battle Angel. Such an awesome movie!
After the movie, we picked up Kristen, and Cian was so exhausted that he conked out in the car. I had to carry him up to bed, and he didn’t even stir! That boy can sleep.
Minecraft Adventures and Late-Night Movie Fails
Later that night, Cian was off in his Minecraft world building a jail for prisoners who steal gold. Building a jail is a complex task! I love hearing about the adventures he has in his game.
I, on the other hand, attempted to watch Lava Tarantulas. Sounds thrilling, right? Wrong! I was out cold before I could even make it through the opening credits. Cian insists on watching it with me, though, so maybe we’ll have better luck next time.
Wrapping Up a Fun-Filled Friday
So, that was our Friday, February 15th, 2019! From McDonald’s breakfasts and Watchdog duties to movie adventures and Minecraft jails, it was a day packed with all sorts of excitement. It’s these little moments, these everyday adventures, that make up the Chronicles of Sir Thomas Leif and King Cian.
It is important to me to be a great parent. The day was a delicate balance of father-son time, school activities, and entertainment.
