Renton, Washington
Early rising at 5:30 am, Oisin gets Cian and they go back to sleep until 8 am. Dad drops Cian off at school by 8:30 am – exhausted, Oisin returns to the Air BnB do work on web Development. A rainy day lay before him. He greets a client at 9:00 am teaching her WordPress, Woo Commerce, and setting up her merchant account. Afterwards, exhaustion and the drowning of life – bills overdue, funds low, and a need of Instacash. Oisin is growing weary of this life and the juggling he has to do day by day just to stay afloat.
After Oisin dropped Cian off at school, he tried to do a web training using Join.me but kept having screen freeze issues with the result of having to do training over cell phone with equal log-ins. The WCMP (WooCommerce Marketplace) software was experiencing issues with creating new vendors. He spent much of the late morning Troubleshooting the issues. The Training was conducted on setting up vendors and customizing pages in a online mall. The rest of the day he did Web Development work for clients. Early afternoon he logged in and did some Dashing so as to keep his finances afloat even though it was rough terrain – pouring rain – making deliveries difficult. He was awaiting client payments, experiencing postponements, and had dire needs for instaCash. These are the dilemmas of self employment he confirmed. Upset with the predatory practices of banks and financial institutions with fees, interest, and penalties. He had Overdraft fee fears through the day. Again also the trouble of automatic billing.
On one of his delivery runs – Oisin meets an agro “on the edge of her seat ready to defend herself for some reason” Millenial delivery girl while doing a pickup. All Oisin did was say “How’s it going? How are deliveries for you this morning?” The flair in her eyes as if she was about to mansplained, she explained she’s been doing it a long time and it was good. You could tell she was trying to hold her composure and not say “Ok, Boomer”. She instantly painted Oisin as an old white dude, or so that is how he felt. They had short talk, though it was apparent she didn’t want to be bothered. As the cashier brought her Doordash delivery, he asked to see her screen to verify the order. She spoke over him – “Oh you don’t know me? I deliver here all the time. Here you can see.” As she didn’t have a thermal bag or anything to represent the company. During her conversation with Oisin who was trying to point out the differences between different cities and regions for deliveries, trying to share some tips, she instantly blurted “No. They don’t want you to do other areas. They want drivers familiar with an area, that’s why she’s assigned in Renton – because she knows the area.” (while that is true, any dasher however can instantly grab shifts in any city in their home state by a click of a button on their app. But nevermind, some just don’t want tips from an old white dude he thought laughing to himself. More Dashing drama and games Door Dash plays through the day, especially their overbearing app that if you don’t instantly head to your destination they will message you and say “You don’t seem to be heading to your destination (even though you are) – do you need help?”.
After deliveries, Oisin headed to Ujimaya and grabbed a Half Duck lunch combo. The hot food bar deli chef took one off the roasting rack, chopped it perpendicularly in half, sliced and diced it throwing it on a bed of white rice with vegetables. Oisin had his lunch-dinner.
Oisin then went and picked up King Cian from school and they played for the afternoon, did homework, and worked on crafts. Later that evening Dad dropped Cian off with his mom by 8 pm. Off he went to the Air BnB for a duck dinner, Web Development work, vlogging, blogging, and watching his series until he passed out from exhaustion.
