01.04.21: Colorado transfer to Washington, Coronavirus variants

Oisin and Cian were up late, oversleeping but in plenty of time for 2nd-grade E-school at Benson Hill after returning from Colorado and the Xmas winter break. Oisin’s goal was finishing unpacking and the Colorado transfer of equipment to Washington headquarters. New Coronavirus variants was bad news looming today. They made cereal with milk and drank orange juice for breakfast. Cian did his 2nd-grade e-class from 9 am until 11:15 am, while Dad unloaded the rooftop carrier from the car, and started unpacking the Uhaul. They just returned from a holidays business cross-country trip from Colorado to Washington State pulling the small Uhaul with their car. News started warning of new Coronaviruses, disturbing and upsetting Oisin as he’s already Corona-weary.

To make matters worse, his largest client called in the morning freezing any additional work, just maintenance on the site he manages for them. That will affect the budget for the year substantially as the client ran out of funds. Oisin had reinstated the Amazon seller account after hiatus for several years. He received his very first order after several years – a plastic zombie gnome to be sent to California. The customer chose UPS, which actually was more expensive shipping than calculated, minimizing profit, especially after Amazon’s exorbitant fees.

Oisin continued to finish unpacking the U-haul into the warehouse. He was exhausted and sleep-deprived from the road trip. Given the new budget crisis, he logged into Grubhub to find some hours – gaining a 5:30 pm – 9 pm shift. Unfortunately, given his absence over the holidays and Techno Tink matters, his status was knocked down to Partner, giving him a low selection of hours. Oisin and Cian had burritos for lunch, then continued with afternoon e-school. They had rain all morning and early afternoon, freezing and cold. By afternoon it was clear skies at 44 degrees Fahrenheit. After e-school and unpacking the Uhaul, Oisin and Cian pit stopped at the post office box and discovered Santa’s deliveries of the zombie police officer and colonel army soldier arrived late. It was believed to be lost in the mail. They headed off to the Uhaul to drop it off. After drop-off, Oisin and Cian pit stopped at Starbucks for an energy burst getting chocolate croissants and a mocha cookie crumble frappuccino. They began their Grubhub shift which had low orders, low pay, low tips averaging around $16/hr before gas and vehicle wear-tear. After their shift, they played Cian’s role-playing game he created called “Ding dong doorbell” this time venturing into the fantasy of King Cian having kids, his son Cian Junior and daughter Rowena. They grabbed KFC for dinner, cashing in on the weekly special of 50 cent wings, mac, and cheese. No calls from mom, so they settled into watching Netflix and dad doing web development, client work, and blog/vlogging into the wee hours of the night.

In the news … the coronavirus developed into variants that are 10-60% more contagious and spreadable than the original strain – causing much concern with the CDC and the World Health Organization. It is unknown if the current vaccines work against this new strain from South America, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. There have been over 30 countries with cases of the variants and is known as the B.1.1.7 which was first discovered in Britain. There was also a convent in New York that had over 100 infected, nine of which died. In addition, over 44 staff members at a California hospital came down with Covid in an outbreak that was caused by an inflatable Christmas costume. In other news, a union was created at Google with over 225 engineers and staff to protect employees that speak out on diversity and sexual harassment. Julian Assange of Wikileaks can’t be extradited to the United States via British rulings, and President Trump called on the Georgia secretary of state to change vote counts in Georgia to overturn his loss – “I just want to find 11,788 votes” Trump said, threatening if they didn’t do his bidding. He kept spreading fake news and lies about dead voters, fixed voting machines, and a stolen election.
