Heathrow Airport, London, England – BochumDusseldorf, Germany

Sir Thomas took the Air Canada flight from the United States to Toronto with a bit of a layover there. The international flight didn’t have personal video screens like Air Canada to Toronto, just first class got that privelege. He slept through most of the flight until he was awoken for dinner and free wine. Then he slept again, awoken for breakfast, and back to nodding off. When he set down in London, he was still hungry, so rested during his layover at the “Bridge Bar” having their “Bridge Breakfast” to satiate his hunger. It was the typical English breakfast consisting of fried egg, fried tomato, mushroom, potatoes, baked beans, toast, sausage, ham, tea, and orange juice. It cost 8 pounds which he thought was pricey – but of course it was airport food.

After the last two years worth of travel to Europe and the airlines ‘misplacing’ his luggage, Sir Thomas got wise this time around, and bought a 20″ carry-on, with a set of clothes just in case. Sure enough, somehow Canadian customs didn’t get his backpack on the flight to London in Toronto. So supposedly the London Air Canada branch will deliver his backpack either tonight or tomorrow to Dusseldorf. “Right … England to Germany – door to door. Same day service” he doubted it. They did give him an overnight kit. He thought “Uggh … Good thing I put in a pair of dance clothes for tonight. Will suck if I have to wear the same outfit to the club tomorrow night. Then I’ll definitely be marked as a tourist or one with no style.” he thought.

Going through Customs was a long wait and lengthy line-up. Adding in the dilemma of lost luggage with a line-up to report it (obviously he wasn’t the only one) he was fearful about missing his flight to Dusseldorf. It was 10:05 am and the flight was leaving at 10:55 am but they still hadn’t announced the gate. “Great.” he thought. Then the gate steward tried to tell him that his carryon wouldn’t fit, but he then smushed it down into their sizing box proving them wrong. “Hell no are they going to take the only bag of bare essential I have” he thought to himself. The Heathrow airport is like a shopping mall and he ran around like a rat in the maze trying to fight his gate passing wall to wall storefronts. He couldn’t believe that he saw so many travelers drinking alcohol at 10 am, beers as well since he could understand Mimosas or other breakfast cocktails. He couldn’t fathom alcohol this early himself.

There were some travel delays in getting off on the plane from London to Dusseldorf, he was about 45 minutes late. Vanessa’s mom was wonderfully awaiting Sir Thomas’ arrival with a sign held up with his name on it. They were soo busy chatting and catching up, they got turned around and lost twice on route back to Lady Vanessa’s. He always found this part confusing, he remembered last visit to Germany he had gotten lost finding it after driving back from the club Zwischenfall at 6 am.

Lady Jennifer dropped him off at Vanessa’s, he wove his way up to Vanessa’s, and almost forgot what floor her apartment was on, tried a wrong door, but finally figured it out. Her apartment building doesn’t have apartment number on the interior, so one has to know where one was going.

Once up to the apartment, he tried to ring his friends but couldn’t figure out the phone system or how to use his new YHA phone card. He then headed off to the market to get some necessities since he had lost his luggage and picking up some milk for Vanessa when she got home from work. He finally figured out conditioner in German as he was having a hard time finding it. It the only thing the Overnight kit from Air Canada was lacking. He grabbed a salad for a late lunch then headed back to Vanessa’s. He couldn’t figure out her internet so took a nap. She had the guest room very welcoming like a Bed and Breakfast, with bed made up nice with a towel and chocolates. So sweet he thought. He fell asleep soundly. A few hours later Vanessa arrived, awoke him, and treated him to fresh baked bread and goodies. They made plans for their trip to Bochum and coordinated with Sir Thomas’ friend Nigel from the states for his commute to Dusseldorf to meet them.

Sir Thomas and Lady Vanessa discussed the upcoming quest across the Yorkshire Dales in pursuit of the magic ring while awaiting Sir Nigel’s arrival. Vanessa also showed Sir Thomas how to use the phone even though it didn’t work with his calling card. They did get Nigel to dial straight through to Vanessa’s phone, and in enough time as he was on the train already enrout to Dusseldorf. Later that afternoon, Sir Thomas and Lady Vanessa took a walkabout to see some sights in Dusseldorf as they prepared to retrieve Sir Nigel – comrade and warrior from Seattle who was stationed with the militia in Frankfurt. They ran to the market to prepare dinner for the three of them, then ran back out to pick him up from the station.

By the time they got back to Vanessa’s they realized it was too late to cook dinner, and instead wined and dines on wine, cheese, and bread. Lady Vanessa is the best of hostesses he thought. They got ready to head out to catch the train, called Sir Thomas Leaf’s friend Kim-Sue, and coordinated where to meet. At the doors of Club Matrix at the witching hour (midnight). The train ride was about 45 minutes with a 10 minute walk to the club. Club Matrix was a massive building with 4 dance rooms, a restaurant, a hall, and high hundreds of patrons. All dark wave, Gothic, electro, and industrial music. Kim Sue and her partner Marco arrived shortly with free passes in hand, and they all went into the club together.

They primarily hung out in the Renaissance / Dark Wave room most of the evening, dancing up a storm, until 4 am, when they escaped to the restaurant up above for pizza and baguettes to Gothic videos. They danced later in the Industrial room, then the 80’s room, and finally discovered the 4th dance room – Heavy metal which wasn’t on the flier. There were so many great outfits and dancers. The place was fantastic as usual.

Kim Sue and Marco seemed to know a lot of people there. Vanessa and Leaf danced the night away to exhaustion. Shortly after, Kim Sue and Marco left them at 5 am, they got tired and left as well not closing down the club like they had planned which is usually 6 am in these parts. They caught the train just in the right amount of time heading home to Dusseldorf. Quiet and sleepy, they gave up on finishing the train journey, grabbing a cab after 3/4th of the journey. Enrout home … Vanessa stopped off at the bakery for fresh bread while Nigel and Leaf met up with her at the pad. She brought out her breakfast specials, fresh bread, brewed some tea, and gifted the Americans with a European breakfast before they passed out to sleep.
