Bakersfield, CA – I-5 California – Lake Shasta, CA [ back to 03.30.15 ]
Awaking at the rest area outside of Bakersfield California, the weary travelers heading north to stock up on their sundries and supplies, take care of errands, and final closing out activities for their exodus from Oregon … a simple breakfast at the rest area gave the adventures some fuel for the day. Driving through the Drought infected Northern California, past Solar farms, and agricultural farms … as they passed through Stockton they spied an odd Jurassic Park size fenced in area that made no sense or logic. They stopped into the Ghirardelli Chocolate Outlet inbetween Stockton and Sacramento for the world famous hot fudge sundae – which wasn’t that grand. They had hoped for a chocolate factory tour to break up the road trip – but none are available there since its only an outlet. They made their way north, as the crazy drivers began to disappear and the Oregon border was getting close. As evening closed in on them passing Shasta Lake they headed north past Weed, Shasta, and Yreka through the State of Jefferson to camp in the cold just before the Oregon border. Temperatures falling while they were still in shorts and t-shirts from the warmth of Southern California … they watched freezing weather envelope them as they nestled into their sleeping bags in the festival wagon for a night’s sleep. Oregon tomorrow Sir Thomas Leaf declared.
