Sumas – Bellingham, Washington
The duo was up early doing their morning grind. Cian of course wanting to get up early for morning cartoons before class. Cian had an intriguing dream last night about aliens, UFOs, and abductions. He discussed it with dad. He also awoke with either chocolate or barbecue sauce on his cheek. Cian said there were weird human-like creatures from a strange spaceship that landed on BBQ sauce, dead bodies with zombie-like skeleton heads with arms still having the skin on it, squishy green balls, aliens telling him that “you have to dress up as something else because the big Halloween Dance party needs something scarier”. They then asked Cian “What do you eat”” and Cian replied, “I eat every day”, and they said, “No you’re too small.” Ramblings.
They got out of bed, had bacon and eggs for breakfast, then Cian did his 9 am – 11:15 am 2nd-grade zoom class, followed by an 11:15 am – 11:30 am online speech class. Dad and son had corn dogs for lunch while carving pumpkins into Jack-o-lanterns. Cian picked the baby pumpkins first. They gutted the pumpkins, collected the seeds for roasting, cut the tops, drew faces, and planned out their designs. Cian thought the guts were the worst part.

They spent lunch break carving as they did their daily part celebrating and preparing for the upcoming Halloween holiday – their favorite time of the year. Dad taught Cian knife safety with carving, pumpkin carving, and pattern planning. Cian wondered if Dad would be seeing his mom’s ghost (grandma) during Halloween – since it’s the time when the veils are thin and ghosts walk the earth. “You never know,” he said, “That’s the time to see her”. Cian became the Master pumpkin carver this year, even though he was grossed out by the guts, making Dad do that part. “Babies in the seeds. All pumpkins have seeds, right dad?” Cian asked. “Even baby pumpkins? Ewwww,” Dad asked Cian if he was scared of pumpkin guts. They carved the eyes, and mouth, and finished up. Cian tested out the top. “Can mine have a scary face? scarier than yours?” “You have two options: ‘Trick’ or ‘Treat’ – does everyone know that?” he asks dad. They hear a mysterious croaking coming from the potted plants, and discover a baby frog. Cian thought it was so cute, and gave it home inside one of the Jack-o-lanterns.

They finished up carving, then Cian went to his RLC online class from 1:15 pm – 2:20 pm, then music class from 3-3:30. Dad resumed client work, tech support, and laundry. He caught up with his friend Wendy online. Oddly the temperature outside was dropping and they were chilly. Afterwards, they head off for their gig work shift in Bellingham from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, barely getting 2 orders – making minimum wage. Oisin caught up with his business partner Allison, then Cian caught up with his mom. Cian wanted music – to play his dancing Nightmare before Xmas Mayor doll. They wrapped up the evening at 8 pm, heading home pit stopping at the KFC – Oisin grabbing a $2 rootbeer float, though oddly they ran out of rootbeer so had to alternate it with Dr Pepper. Cian grabbed a soft-serve ice cream cone. They returned home to Techno Tink headquarters, Cian off to bed, and dad attempting an all-nighter. Exhaustion set in, so he did not accomplish. Off to sleep, he went.
