Denver, Colorado – Hastings, Nebraska
Early to rise at his Denver place, Oisin awoke and made himself an Avacado, egg, ham, and cheese omelet for breakfast. His goal was to get out of the house and onto the road as early as possible, especially since the therapists would be arriving at 8:30 am to work with the kids – and he didn’t want to get in the way. He wrapped up some client work and was off in his car, packed up, and ready to continue on the adventure of the American Giants … and his shovelbum survey of Eagle Creek.
He drove off into the sunrise of Eastern Colorado, passing through Kansas, and right across Nebraska. En route, he stopped off at North Platte to grab some energy boost at Starbucks and gas for his minivan. He completely forgot about the Midwest’s use of ethanol fuel, filling up his regular tank with it – and hoping afterward it would not hurt his tank. There was a whole lot of nothing during this boring road trip for most of the day – to be expected in general of driving across Nebraska and Kansas. Luckily, no tornadoes on the horizon as that is always a threat in this country.
Heading across with Interstate 80 – he made his way towards the Missouri state line. The trip will be more exciting once he gets across the plains, he thought. The infamous Grand Platte River Arch Monument riverwalk and park lay ahead, enticing him in for a gander in Kearney, Nebraska. He pulled over, pondered about visiting the museum again, but decided to be more conservative with his funds. He had visited the museum a couple of years back so figured he had enough pictures. He did walk the river walk again, this time not seeing the massive amount of fish he remembered last time. Re-read up about the buffalo, pioneer journeys along the route, lodge house, and sod house.
Runtime: 7 minutes, 17 seconds.

After his rest stop, he pulled over at a regular rest stop – and learned a bit about the highway construction of I-80 in this area and how they created a chain-of-lakes from quarrying materials for the Interstate. Quite a few along the highway seemed to be private and others looked accessible to those wanting to enjoy them.
He struggled through high winds along the route, doing a time jump two hours ahead from West coast time, 1 hour ahead from Mountain Standard. He decided to take a break from the windy weather and took what he thought would be a quick detour off the road for an affordable hotel on Hotels.com. It was a 45-minute drive off route, and in a podunk town of Hastings, Nebraska. He stopped off at the C3 Hotel for the night. Grabbing Friendly’s for dinner and resting in the hotel room for the night. Doing web client work and catching up with his series.
Runtime: 3 minutes, 4 seconds.

The C3 Hotel had a pool and hot tub so he was very excited to cool off. Unfortunately, two loud and obnoxious kids took over the swimming pool, so he spent most of his time in the hot tub until they shifted there, then dove into the pool. More web development and programming ensued, then watching King Kong vs. Godzilla on HBOMax before bed.
In the News on NPR and New York Times, Oisin caught up with events. The deadline for the United States to leave Afghanistan is just a month away – controversy and debate on whether that should happen of course was the highlight. It is being said that this was so far America’s longest war and perhaps was coming to an end. President Joe Biden has set a May 1st deadline to withdraw the troops where they’ve been deployed since the September 11th attacks of 2001. The approximate 3500 soldiers there would be logically difficult the get home by May – there are over two decades worth of infrastructure to move. If the move is completed too quickly, consequences may be seen – as Trump struck a deal with the Taliban to withdraw, the repressive militant ground was already supporting targeted killings against Afghan civilians and soldiers, and if the U.S. leaves could open up a military takeover. If the U.S. delays the move, even with just a few months, it might strengthen peace talks between the Taliban and Afghanistan’s democratic government. This could piss off the Taliban even more, who drastically wants the U.S. out now. If the U.S. stays, the Afghan military would have more support to protect the imperfect gains of women’s education and democracy they’ve made since 2001. This would likely cost an additional $2 trillion and thousands of lives.
Biden detailed his $2 trillion plan to repair and upgrade the infrastructure of the United States. He wants to rebuild over 20,000 miles of roads to eliminate lead water pipes, looking towards undoing Trump’s tax cuts that shrank corporate tax from 35 to 21 percent. He wants to raise that taxes to 28 percent to support renewable energy and electric cars, aid unions, and create jobs.
In Covid-19 pandemic news, the clinical trials done by Pfizer show the vaccine is safe and effective for 12 to 15-year-olds with no symptomatic infections so far. Johnson and Johnson however had a mishap with their vaccines and distribution, as a Baltimore factory ruined over 15 million doses. The pandemic hit new highs in France, causing its third national lockdown. The Derek Chauvin murder of George Floyd’s trial saw the testimonial from the teenage store clerk who called the police. An office building in Southern California had a shooting killing four people including a child as the third mass shooting in the U.S. over the course of the last 16 days. New York legalized recreational marijuana and ended long-term solitary confinement in their state prisons. Coca-Cola and Delta airlines caused controversy over their opposition to Georgia’s new restrictive voting access laws.
