Young Thomas’ parents had a cabin in the woods lakeside with about 5 acres of land going down to the lake front. Along that stretch was a steep hill with boulders, wooden thickets, and covered with wild strawberries. The kids called it “Strawberry hill” and it was a place where they often hung out. This was Young Thomas’ hangout. One day he was playing amongst the strawberries and heard a rustling in the thicket. He spied a man in dark green with pointy ears. He chased after him. Popping his head out from behind the tree they spoke. He was named “Po Po”. He soon became close friends with young Thomas. They would play games and Po Po would get young Thomas in lots of trouble with his mischief and pranks. This was because no one else could see Po Po but young Thomas. His parents firmly believed he had an imaginary friend. At first they thought it was cute. But when the mischief got out of hand, so was this “imaginary friend business”. In his grown up years, Sir Thomas saw the 80’s classic film “Drop Dead Fred” and it brought back memories of “Po Po” … because the film’s character “Fred” was very similar to “Po Po”. Too identical. Except, Po Po had pointed ears, and called himself an elf. He would share many things “faerie” with young Thomas. young Thomas was learning about a mythical fantastical world that no one else could see. He thought that was very odd.
