04.08.11: Denver to Los Angeles to Brisbane

I rose early at Sir Guy’s house, the weight of departure settling into the morning air. Sir Guy kindly prepared breakfast while I gathered my gear for the long journey ahead. My packs sat ready, each one carefully organized for the adventure that now stood before me. This was no longer preparation. This was a departure.

Sir Rockbear soon awoke and helped me load up for the drive to the Denver Air Dragon court. There was something ceremonial about the moment. The ride felt quiet but meaningful. We both knew this was more than a simple airport drop-off. This was the beginning of a true walkabout.

04.07.11: The Last Day as Curator

I awoke early, knowing this would be one of the most significant days of my life. The air carried that strange mix of finality and anticipation … the feeling that comes when one chapter is ending, and another is about to begin. My gear was already mostly packed, but I moved slowly and deliberately, double-checking everything as I gathered my belongings from my stay with Captain Relief’s infamous Booty Girl, Absinthe Alli (Allison).

04.06.11: The Weight of Leaving

Wednesday arrived with the quiet inevitability of departure. The clock was ticking now. Each sunrise brought Australia closer, and Colorado further into memory. The days had begun to take on a strange quality, where every moment felt both ordinary and significant at the same time. I returned once again to the lab at Fort Carson.

04.05.11: Farewell in Black Velvet & Candlelight

I awoke at the crack of dawn, the familiar mixture of exhaustion and excitement settling into my bones. The week had already been emotionally heavy, filled with farewells, final preparations, and the slow unwinding of a life I had carefully built in Colorado. Yet there was still work to be done. Responsibilities remained, and I intended to finish them properly.

04.04.11: Joan of Arc and the Road Ahead

Monday, April 4, 2011, arrived with the quiet awareness that time was running short. I awoke knowing that these were among my final days working at the Curation Facility at Fort Carson. The routine that had grounded me for years was nearing its end. My morning felt both ordinary and symbolic. Chai. Preparing for work. Driving familiar roads that soon would no longer be part of my daily life.

04.03.11: Packing, Family, and the Unknown Ahead

Sunday, April 3, 2011, was a quieter day, but one filled with reflection, preparation, and the growing realization that my life was about to change in ways I could not yet fully understand.

Much of the day was spent packing and preparing for the journey ahead. My belongings were already largely stored away. My RV sat in a storage lot, and additional items were tucked into a storage unit. I had intentionally reduced my footprint, preparing for what would become an extended journey across Australia, England, and beyond.

04.02.11: Quiet Between Worlds

After the farewell celebrations the night before, I slept in late on Saturday, April 2, 2011. The previous evening had stretched long into the night, beginning with dinner and drinks with my colleagues from Fort Carson and continuing into a Burner gathering at the Inkq3btr warehouse in Colorado Springs. It had been an emotional night filled with laughter, hugs, and the realization that I was truly about to leave.
