Day 3
Sunday, April 3, 2011
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Sunday, April 3, 2011, was a quieter day, but one filled with reflection, preparation, and the growing realization that my life was about to change in ways I could not yet fully understand.
Much of the day was spent packing and preparing for the journey ahead. My belongings were already largely stored away. My RV sat in a storage lot, and additional items were tucked into a storage unit. I had intentionally reduced my footprint, preparing for what would become an extended journey across Australia, England, and beyond.
For the past month, I had been living on Allison’s couch. It was a transitional space between the life I was leaving behind and the one I was about to begin.

Allison and her daughter, Astranna, had become my closest family in Colorado at the time. My own daughter, Breanna, had recently moved to Florida, following a relationship that had taken her far from Colorado. With Breanna gone, Allison and Astranna became my immediate family, the people I saw daily, shared meals with, and relied on emotionally.
That day, we spent time together, knowing that soon I would be halfway around the world.
There was a quiet weight to the day. Packing bags. Sharing conversations and spending time together without needing to say too much. These were the kinds of moments that often feel small at the time, yet later become deeply meaningful.

At the same time, plans for Australia were beginning to take shape.
Some Goth friends of mine introduced me to someone named Bluey in Australia. He had recently traveled through Colorado Springs and met them at a bar. Over a couple of days, they formed a friendship, and when they learned I was heading to Australia, they connected us.
Bluey offered to take two weeks off work to show me around Australia when I arrived.
It sounded incredible. A local guide, someone who knew the region, was willing to help me explore when I first landed.
But there was also a reality I could not ignore.
My friends did not know him very well.
They had only met him briefly during his visit to Colorado Springs. I had never met him at all. Soon, I would be traveling halfway around the world and placing my early experiences in the hands of someone who was, essentially, a stranger.
It felt risky.
It also felt like an adventure.
This was the nature of the journey I was embarking on. Stepping into the unknown, trusting instincts, and allowing the road to unfold.
Plans were also formed for my flight route. My journey from Denver to Brisbane would include a layover in Los Angeles. I decided to take advantage of that stop and planned to visit my brother, Docteur Mangor, while passing through.
Even the journey itself would be long and demanding. Denver to Los Angeles. Los Angeles to Brisbane. Crossing the Pacific. Crossing time zones. Crossing into a new chapter of life.
As the day progressed, I found myself reflecting more deeply on the journey ahead. I knew I would miss Allison and Astranna. Their presence had become part of my daily life. Leaving meant stepping away from that comfort and into uncertainty.
Yet I also felt something else.
A sense of calling.
Dreams of the Goddess Brigid had been appearing in my life leading up to this journey. For me, Brigid was more than a mythological figure. She was my matron, my guiding force, a spiritual presence that had influenced my life in profound ways. I had experienced premonitions and intuitive guidance before, and this journey felt like another step along that path.
I felt that this adventure was important. A quest of sorts.
There were echoes of earlier visions and prophecies, including the prophecy of Niamh that had shaped parts of my life and spiritual journey. Though I sensed that this particular prophecy would not be resolved during this trip, I felt strongly that this journey would play an important role in the unfolding story.
By evening, exhaustion began to take hold. Packing, planning, and emotional reflection had taken their toll. The week ahead would be busy, filled with final preparations, farewells, and departure.
Sunday, April 3, 2011, became another quiet but meaningful step forward.
The unknown awaited.
And soon, I would step into it.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Steel-gray dawn on Academy
Boxes stacked like sentry lines
Snow-dust ghosts on Carson’s fences
Breath of frost
Farewell signs
He folds his worn-out camo jacket
Traces sand in every seam
Leaves his boots by the back-door step Like a shed-off skin
Old dream
[Chorus]
Raise the black wing
Sir Thomas Leif
From Colorado’s bones to the boiling reef
From Pike’s white crown to the roaring thunder
You sail
Down Under on the edge of wonder
Oh The wind will carve your name in foam
But your heart stays home
With Absinthe Alli and Astranna’s laughter
In every wave you’ll chase them after
[Verse 2]
Alli pours the bitter-green glass
“Just a taste ” she says “for the road”
Emerald flame in a kitchen tumbler
Tiny altar to the unknown
Astranna draws a crooked tall ship
Stars and kangaroos in the sky
“Bring this back when you’re a pirate Tom”
He tucks it close
Tries not to cry
[Chorus]
Raise the black wing
Sir Thomas Leif
From Colorado’s bones to the boiling reef
From Pike’s white crown to the roaring thunder
You sail Down Under on the edge of wonder
Oh The wind will carve your name in foam
But your heart stays home
With Absinthe Alli and Astranna’s laughter
In every wave you’ll chase them after
[Bridge]
[Drums build Low chant under lead vocal]
Salt in your blood
Frost in your past
Mountain man
Seafaring at last
Pagan prayers in a southern star
Old gods listen from afar
On the HMB
Ghost of Cook
You grip the rail
The sky unhooked
Every swell
You hear her say
“Come back someday
Come back someday”
[Chorus]
Raise the black wing
Sir Thomas Leif
From Colorado’s bones to the boiling reef
From Pike’s white crown to the roaring thunder
You sail Down Under
on the edge of wonder
Oh The wind will carve your name in foam
But your heart stays home
With Absinthe Alli and Astranna’s laughter
In every wave you’ll chase them after
[Outro]
[Instruments fade Almost a capella]
So drink the storm and sing the deep
Let the southern shadows keep
But when the mast cuts through the moon
Think of them
You’re coming soon
