* Yreka, California – Shasta, California – City of Lost Angels *
Our explorers slept in and took advantage of the noon checkout. Dusty and overcast day, but getting up in the 60’s (Fahrenheit) temperatures, they were ready for the road. The adventurers rolled into the Explorer vardo and headed south on I-5, through Shasta National Park. A pit stop for brunch at the Weed, California rest stop – fighting the wind, they fired up the camp stove and fried up some of Sir Athonwy’s black bean and pinto bean tempeh, some edamame tofu nuggets, and fighting their Starbucks addiction, made some rice dream coconut milk and chocolate chai (in plastic Starbucks cups) all within the silhouette of Mount Shasta. It was very picturesque sight. Driving down the interstate they were able to see some fall foliage (probably the only in California) making their way through Redding and Corning. Driving through groves of Olive trees as Corning is the capital of Olive oil in California. A 12 hour drive today cruising down historic 99 / I-5 from Yreka to Los Angeles. Sir Leaf’s Debit card got denied at the gas station as he put in the wrong zip code (he recently moved) and had to spend 30 minutes clearing it up with the bank to get it working again. Then he lost his phone again (4th time in 3 months) (though found his 3rd lost phone – which was De-activated so no good anyhow). Damn pixies have it in for him, he thought. The explorers drove through some gas station that had thousands of birds all over the ground and in the rafters … which reminded Leaf of the Alfred Hitchcock film “the Birds”. A 5 hour energy shot later, they were soon cruising into the land of lost souls. They made it to Docteur Mangor’s for Prince Cian to play with Prince Winter as the cousins had a 1 am play date.
