March 1-4, 2011: Down Under – A Month to Go (03.01.11, 03.02.11, 03.03.11, 03.04.11)

Tuesday, 1 March 2011 through Friday, 4 March 2011
Colorado Springs, Colorado

The daily grind. Sir Thomas anxiously watching the calendar as the quest Down Under and Farewell to Colorado draws near … only a month away. Nervousness, excitement, tension, fear, bewilderment, and anxiety all very common emotions and experiences for the brave adventurer. He is giving up a lot. Farewell to the old ways, hello to the new. Is this the right journey? One never knows he re-assured himself.

There is much that he loves about America, but there is a lot that he doesn’t. Having explored all 50 states, he’s ready to crawl out from his American rock and get a different perspective on life. Biological as well as extended family anchor him here, but the clock is ticking, wanderlust afoot. It is time to follow the premonitions and dreams he has been having about the sea, sailing, ancient cultures, myths and legends. He questions if this is what the ancient seafarer had to go through? After all his family dispersed to the far coasts, governmental changes in policies and funding, and dreams of becoming a Ecological adventurer and theatrical pirate … what more could he question?

The week continued as usual … the daily grind at Fort Carson working on protecting archaeological sites and history, mapping areas of concern, cataloging ancient artifacts, writing the manual, wrapping up the incredible stack of assignments on his desk, plotting out the charts and course for the new adventure, connecting with those Down Under for the journey of a lifetime, and saying goodbye to American culture.

What better place but the Wild West where historic ways meet technological wonders. A hub of mixed American culture to reminiscence the past, contemplate the present, plan for the future. Trying to make heads or tales of dreams of having a Pirate ship, exploring the wilds, and chasing legends. It is time. It is time, Sir Thomas re-assured himself.

Sir Thomas spent the week with his best friend Lady Allison and his surrogate daughter Princess Astranna, wandering Colorado Springs – seeing what he can with the time he has left. Who knows if he’ll ever return to this pandora’s box of wonders. The wonderful environment that is constantly in flux and changing – loving the weather going from hot to cold, warm to windy, chilly to comfortable. If you don’t like the weather at the moment in Colorado, all you had to do was wait 20 minutes … the Chinook snow eaters would devour the ice and bring forth a hot sunny day soon enough.

The weekend was upon him and he had a craving after work of good southern BBQ. It didn’t matter that he was in the Wild West and not the southern swamps, chefs and cooks melt this Colorado pot, he wandered over to the Firehouse BBQ in Old Colorado City to get his southern fix. Delicious and fulfilling, he stuffed himself. It was a good treat.

Afterwards he headed off to storage to sort through his possessions, figuring out what to sell on Craigslist. It was a time to minimize his life. A farewell to his favorite orange sofa chair, a buyer on Craigslist contacted him and it was off in the back of a pickup truck.

He coordinated with one of his best friends, Lady Christina, about visiting the Pirate Exhibit at the Denver Museum of Natural History tomorrow. Excited, he called it a night. Tomorrow he would learn about the ancient seamen that he is adventuring to become …
