Most of January was spent by Sir Thomas Leaf getting his affairs in order for his life changing walkabout. He spent most days meditating in the mornings, hiking the trails of Cheyenne Mountain State Park during his lunch breaks, writing a GIS/Curation manual, and wrapping up his archaeological duties in his contract with the government. He was both excited and sad about this transition. Adrenaline raced through his being for the exciting unknown that was before him, and mourning for the parting of ways with all whom he knew as family and friends in Colorado. This was fate he knew, and a chance to change his divine path towards new transitions and beginnings.

Sir Thomas Leaf began his day, not unlike most weekends this month, with a hike and drive through the scenic Garden of the Gods. Here he sought inspiration from the old ones about his upcoming walkabout. What will befall him? What lies ahead? What new worlds would he be exploring? Will he find his life mate? What adventures await …
The stone golems and giants that are the odd twisting and protruding geologic features of the Garden of the Gods hinted to him that he would soon delve deep into the folktales and mythologies of the old as he would embark upon new journeys to understand the world of faeries, giants, magic, God/desses, and the beyond.
These monumental geologic uplifts that have been called the Garden of the Gods, look like giant God/desses looming above sitting in a garden. Sir Thomas Leaf thought the namesayers of this site was spot on. If this site existed in Europe where faerie legends run rampant, they would have been deemed faerie or magical sites where spirits, Deities, or fae lived and haunted.
Ever since he moved to Colorado Springs for the archaeology job, upon discovering this natural monoliths, has come here for meditation, inspiration and awe. He asked of the stones for guidance in his upcoming walk-about down under.
He would soon be embracing the footsteps of what historic seamen and adventurers had gone through and how they manifested the visions and gateways of the strange in their lives. He too would embrace this. He would find his new self, and his new purpose. Magic springs and holy wells were hinting to him a new life purpose, a new directive on what his life’s purpose was. He was always secure in the knowledge that his purpose on this planet was to protect the artifacts, sites, and remains of the ancestors – and this is what drove him to become an Archaeologist. Little did he know, that the focus of that purpose was all about the life giving substance know as “water”. The magic and lore behind this amazing element would be what he would pledge the remaining of his life to protect. A water protector in true essence. That of springs and wells.

As a pre-practice walkabout, Sir Thomas Leaf wandered from the Garden of the Gods into the little historic village of Manitou Springs to visit their magical and sacred springs. Welcomed through the gates at the base of Pikes Peak, down the quiet avenue to trace steps of his past. He revisited his old store front, the Tree Leaves Oracle, which was housed years ago in this building that was live-work, atop the real Twin Springs, in a cavernous basement below. He visited Miramount Castle, who housed the sisters of mercy who took care of those suffering from tuberculosis, seeking the healing waters of the town to aid them in their suffering. He visited Cheyenne Spring seeking a boost to his digestion and absorbing the magical naturally carbonated artesian tonic water to improve his heart, blood, and bones. He dropped off at the Mate Factory for a chai mate, the Mariner tavern & Townhouse lounge who hosted the after-parties for his Manitou Zombie crawls he founded and organized annually, and had lunch at the new pizza place Hell’s Kitchen. He wandered around sites of haunted tales that the ghost tours used to frequent some nights in the past. Manitou Springs held a special place in his heart. Reflections on the past and his journeys so far.
Sir Thomas Leaf climbed into his Technogypsie van “Isis Adventure through Time” and gave his little Buddha on the dash a squeeze for good luck. He drove off to Lady Allison’s for a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow would be a busy day at work curating and recording archaeological sites.
