Director: Olalla Rubio; Starring: Edward Furlong; Peter Coyote; Edi Gathegi; and Julian Sedgwick.

An International Film from Mexico, released in January 2011, filmed and produced in Estudios Churubusco Azteca, Mexico City, and Distrito Federal, Mexico; the film theoretically takes place in Sin City … Las Vegas, Nevada. It takes place in a mythic and dark art-flavored elite hotel based around the Apocalypse and demons. Edward Furlong plays an unstable very confused man who is having a crisis just on the brink of the end of the world. He plays three characters in the film all named Pete. He covers the celebration of atomic testing from Hitler to American tests in the desert and wars abroad. It really is the story of a babbling fool on drugs trapped in a deluxe hotel room in his psychotic episodes as a straight guy, an unshaven drunk, and a hippie babbling about “Who am I”, “the End”, sex, and whiskey. While parts of the film were oddly visually attractive, I had a hard time staying awake keeping with the plot. Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5.

Director: Jace Alexander. Writers: D. Brent Mote & Jane Espenson. Starring:
Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, and many others. Original Air Date: 21 July 2009.

By Episode 3 of the amazing series, I was hooked. I joined in on the adventure in this episode as Pete and Myka going to investigate a small town that was behaving very strangely. Apparently, everyone in town did as they pleased. As they find the artifact behind the troubles, Artie is having issues at the Warehouse still with the hacker trying to break in. He seeks out help from Leena, who may have the clues to his puzzle. High adventure and comedic blunders. It’s a fun flick for all to see. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

Director: Vincent Misiano. Writers: D. Brent Mote & Jane Espenson. Starring:
Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, and many others. Original Air Date: 14 July 2009.

After my first viewing of this new and intriguing series, I joined in on Episode 2 where Pete and Myka are sent to investigate a series of bank robberies taking place in downtown Chicago. Turns out they run into an FBI agent named Bonnie Belski who is perplexed with the investigation and even more curious about Pete and Myka, both of whom have to hide the fact that the robbers are using a futuristic device that creates a severe sound resonance that hypnotizes by sound throwing the listener into a state of euphoria so they cannot observe, interfere with, or get in the way of the theft. As Pete and Myka have their hands full with the thefts, Artie is back at the Warehouse trying to fight off a “hacker” who is trying to penetrate their compound. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

Its X-files Mulder and Scully meet a spin-off of where the Lost Ark of the Covenant disappeared off to at the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. This popular Syfy network television series is a fantasy created by Jack Kenny and David Simkins as a dramatic comedy that reminds one of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the X-files, Moonlighting, and Friday the 13th: The Series. So far the series is up to 3 seasons with a popularity that might keep it going. It’s about two U.S. Secret Service agents, Myka Bering and Peter Lattimer who become re-assigned to the government’s secret “Warehouse 13” where un-natural artifacts with dangerous properties are locked up where they cannot do damage, in a barren warehouse in the middle of South Dakota. Initially, they feel they are being punished for some assignments that involved foul-ups, but rather being “rewarded” for their great skills. The Warehouse is under the premise that it was established in 1914 by Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and M.C. Escher that is a continuation of various Warehouses throughout the world that houses artifacts of this kind – the first being Warehouse One operated by Alexander the Great, Warehouse 2 as the Library at Alexandria, Warehouse 12 in Great Britain – always being moved into the possession of whichever country was the superpower during that age. All of the artifacts housed in the warehouses possess magical, supernatural, or scientific powers that are dangerous, and are connected to some historical or mythological figure, each imbued with something of their former owner. Most an excellent series. Rated: 5 stars out of 5.

Warehouse 13: Season 1 ~ Episode 1: The Pilot

Director: Jace Alexander. Writers: D. Brent Mote & Jane Espenson. Starring:
Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, and many others. Original Air Date: 7 July 2009.

Its a blended science fiction television series of the “what if” and “after the fact” of the U.S. super-secret warehouse that houses magical items like the “Ark of the Covenant” we saw being so neatly placed at the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” combined with much of the comical elements of Agents Mulder and Scully of the “X-files”. It all begins with two secret service agents who after saving the president’s life from an assassination attempt get recruited by a super-secret warehouse in the middle of the South Dakota desert housing supernatural artifacts to become custodians and curators of said occult. They are now assigned to retrieve any lost objects and investigate reports of any new ones. Their first assignment, which they fail badly at, is to protect a rare Aztec stone that gets stolen. Their next assignment is to travel to Iowa where they are to investigate the beatings of Emily Krueger. Turns out her law school boyfriend Cody Thomas was beating her while under the influence of an ancient Italian Strega bewitchment by a jewel he possessed of Lucrecia Borgia. It has a great spin. It’s the atypical “mutant” skill flick about three teens who develop superpowers from a meteorite. Clash “Smallville”, “The Craft” with “Push” and you’ve got “Chronicle”. The three kids: A popular jock, a yuppie, and a loner all gain telekinetic powers while exploring a cave outside a rave. They learn to harness the powers until it takes from them all that they have. Good effects, great flick, but two redundant on every other superpower movie. It’s a bit overdone. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

It’s a spin-off of the legendary Mega hogs but in Australia, known as the razorbacks. Its the typical nature vs. man horror movie where nature fights back, but this time in the guise of a giant wild vicious hog that terrorizes the Australian outback. The mysterious death of a child is blamed on the grandfather when in reality it was the razorback. As people die off, loved ones begin to investigate the truth to what is really going on, only to find this legendary monster is behind the murders. A band goes out to find the Razorback and faces unspeakable horrors. Good film. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.
