11.22.15: Recording Rock Art and Lithics

Cedarville, California

Sir Thomas slept in until 6 am, then crawled out of bed to add on the layers, get his gear together, and meet with the crew outside the rooms at 7. They piled into their work trucks and headed off to the valleys nearby the Surprise Valley/Barrel Springs back country byway for a four-wheel journey into the boondocks to record rock art and lithic scatters. Hiking up to the cliff bluffs, the team assessed all of the rock art panels, rock walls that were potential game drives or sheep-herder fencing, or a combination of both, as they crawled all over the rocks. Sir Thomas took a spill and bruised up his shin on the lava rocks as well as snagging his leg on a bit of barbed wire. Since Sir Thomas has a lot of skill with sketching out the rock art, he was tasked with that while the others climbed the cliffs and recorded the rock walls. A moderate lithic scatter was found above as well. The team continued recording and moved on to a historic scatter, as well as some more lithic scatters. The weather was nice, as Sir Thomas was able to strip his top layers down to a t-shirt. Towards sunset, the team drove off into the sunset to their hotel for a good night’s rest with dreams of rock art and projectile points. It was a good day Sir Thomas thought. Upon arrival at the hotel, young Prince Cian, missing his pappa, was very excited to see him. They played trucks and watched some toons until Sir Thomas passed out exhausted to the Walking Dead.
