meet crew 7 am, head to field, cross nevada border, recording rock art

Crawling out of bed by 6:15 am, Sir Thomas grabbed his gear, a shower, and a quick breakfast sharing an omelet with Prince Cian before heading out to meet the crew at 7. The teams piled into their four-wheel drives and headed off towards sunrise. Off to record sites nearby the Surprise Valley/Barrel Springs back country byway they made their way across some pretty harsh terrain, driving over lava rock jeep trails towards a few lithic scatters needing recording, a catchment pond, and to assess a massive rock art panel site. They recorded a few panels until they ran out of forms and moved on to lithic scatters. Lunch was late, but very satisfying as the team discussed all things archaeology. As the sun began to set, they headed back down the dusty bumpy road to the byway and back to the hotel before sunset. The steam from the hot springs on the playa were creating intriguing patterns below the sunset. Prince Cian was excited to see his dad wanting some quality time as they played with toy cars, watched cartoons, took a walk to Rabbit Traxx for some ice cream and snacks. Around 9’ish the weary adventurers passed out.
