Medford to Bend, Oregon
Sore and twisted, the adventurers awoke in their cramped car and re-dispersed their belongings between the two vehicles and headed back on the road. They made their way through Redding and north into land of Shasta. Passed Shasta Caverns, Lake Shasta, and as sunrise welcomed them through Shasta City into Weed. Pit stopped at the Weed rest area they headed to Yreka for gas and caffeine. Stopping at the Starbucks for a quick breakfast of hot chai, hot chocolate, and breakfast sandwiches they soon proceeded through the State of Jefferson. Snow chain warning signs were making their unveiling as winter is being prepared for in these parts as they crossed over Mount Ashland. Down the slope through Ashland into Phoenix they made their way into their storage yard to unload the vehicles. There simply is no room left in the storage unit Sir Thomas thought. They did their best. Their Little Debbie snacks delivery guy neighbor drove up and they caught up with him as he told them how bad Medford has become as California’s exodus of gangsters infiltrated the city since we left … drive by shootings, crazy Walmart nuts, ghettos, and crime on the rise. It took the adventurers several hours to unload their provisions and gear, repacking the Explorer for the journey East to Idaho. Onward they drove to Medford to drop off a package at the post office then to their friend Bob’s auto storage yard where they checked in their Toyota van for a few weeks. Climbing back together as a family into the Explorer, they stopped for lunch and hit the road for the hills … driving up and by Crater Lake. As they passed Crater Lake, they watched the temperatures plummet down to below freezing with welcoming snow fall marking the onset of Winter for the explorers. Sir Thomas was exhausted and lacking energy for the drive, lack of showers and rest they decided to stop at a hotel as it was to cold to camp. Wasn’t really in their budget but as they found a deal at the Dunes Motel in Bend, they stopped for the night. One of the best hotels they’ve been to for a very long time. Rest was definitely had. An episode of Supergirl and a hot bath was all that Sir Thomas needed for sleep to take over.
