Pomeroy, Ohio to Hopewell, Ohio
Departing Starwood and Wisteria, Sir Thomas Leaf and Lady Etain crawled slowly up the hill with their Vardo RV and Vardo Sienna stopping off at the co-ed showers for a quick clean-off. After showering together, they headed off on the highway across the Amish countryside past a Amish farm, barns, and carriage crossings back into civilization through Athens northwest to the Hopewell Mound culture. They passed a country cemetery with a intriguing grave of a man’s gravestone with a statue of a dog visiting the grave.
Just before dark, our delvers made their way into the front gates of the ancient Hopewell Mounds. The Visitor center was closed for the day, and there was only one other car which was on its way out. Prince Cian, Sir Thomas Leaf, and Lady Etain unfolded Prince Cian’s chariot, and carted him out onto the manicured green grass heading out to the mounds. The spirits spoke forth to the travelers telling them tales of ancient ways and times. It was quite a hike around the mounds, and then through the back nature trail speckled with talking trees, Echinacea (purple cone flowers), and other botanical beauties. A couple of faerie gates wanting passage under its arches attempted to lure them within the realms. A strange concrete wall in the back with masonic carvings stirred curiosity. As darkness was approaching, the explorers hit the road and were in awe of the dancing clouds around a sunset telling more tales of legends and lore. That night, they rested at a rest area for a good night’s sleep.
