Borre Viking Marked, Borre, Norway
Sir Thomas Leaf awoke later than he usually does, but only half-ass at best. There was excessive chatter in the camps next to him throughout the morning. As “nature called”, it was a stumble out of the tent with a rush down the slippery muddy hill to the toilets for relief. As he wandered back to his camp and readying himself for breakfast he realized his pirate skull cup was gone. Where could it have gone he pondered. That didn’t stop him from making cereal as he prepared the granola in its cereal packaging, poured in the coconut milk, which amazingly held without leakage. Proceeding to make lunch for himself planning ahead for the market, he made more peanut butter and jelly croissants up for lunch as that was what his budget availed. Preparing his ritual makeup, he went for a more ritualistic woad-blue eye pattern for face painting display. Onward to the market, with a contemplated thought of a swim in the fjord, he chose not to as the skies looked cold and unforgiving. He setup Sir Rob Wildwood’s cloak onto the ground, laid out his traditional body paints, and began vending face painting. He was sore and cold, with sporadic rains throughout the morning, then bright sunshine rest of the day. With fluctuating cold periods through the day, a neighborly merchant saw he was cold, and brought him over a cloak to borrow to keep warm. Sir Thomas Leaf discovered this morning that “rock moss” was a great replacement for his usual “baby wipes” for cleaning off the brushes in between paintings. One of the merchants just behind him brought over some of his runes for Sir Thomas Leaf to sell for him, giving him a 50% split of sales. That combined with numerous requests of the public for face painting, Sir Thomas Leaf was kept pretty busy. He was well entertained though through the many mock battles, re-enactments, and hordes of women brought in for the slave trade.

Painting was abundant by late afternoon, even though it began with slow momentum. Sir Leaf decided to call it quits by 5 pm as him and Sir Rob would need to begin their journey to the ship, and would have to stop for a night’s rest before their early morning departure. That day, Sir Thomas Leaf Made about 700 krones Face and Body Painting for this date. With a need to get rid of the coinage since most of the currency exchanges do not deal with coin, he negotiated a deal with his neighboring jewelry maker to exchange the rest of his coinage for a beautiful silver Viking heart for Etain. After finishing arrangements with the viking rune pendant merchant who he was selling consignment for, he was gifted a rune for “harvest” and given 50 krones for helping with sales. Back to camp, Sir Leaf packed up Sir Rob’s tent, organized his bags and gear, then headed off to meet up with Rob at his vardo. Then they made their rounds to say farewell to their viking friends. Back on the road to the Moter Hotel they stayed on the way to Borre. Even though Sir Thomas Leaf made alot of krones, him and Etain are behind on their rent, so every penny made would be going to the landlord. Therefore, Sir Thomas Leaf could not afford a room of his own. With Sir Rob’s kindness, he crashed in Sir Rob’s vardo within the Motor Hotel’s parking lot as he did when they first stayed. As Motor Hotel’s frown upon such actions, Sir Leaf had to be stealthy, quiet, and make no notice he would be doing this “car camping”. Unfortunately though, it was still hot out and the van was retaining much of the heat of the day – making it impossible to bear sitting in until evening. Sir Leaf decided to give in and paid 160 krones for a burger, fries, and glass of water. While not within his budget, it was at least beneficial as the hotel had free wifi for customers giving Sir Leaf a chance to catch up with the rest of the world, his online business, blogging, and job quests. When he was paying for his burger, the cashier asked if he was staying in the hotel (as he believes they may have spied that he snuck up and had a shower in Sir Rob’s room prior to coming down to dine) … but he fibbed and said he was just passing through. Afterwards he stealthily walked across the street to the gas station and a round-about way back to the van to slip in and into quietness. Still roasting hot, bored and not tired – he entertained himself by watching episodes of Past Life, season 1 – which were very good, but the battery on the laptop almost drained so had to call it a night. Just as he was drifting off to sleep, his love Lady Etain called and they had a nice ½ hour conversation before falling asleep. Sir Leaf missed his love, not wanting to wait to be back in her arms. The beginning of the evening required no blankets as it was quite warm, but by middle of the morn, it became chilly and Sir Leaf had to awake to fish out his Mexican blanket to bundle up with. Hot and cold, hot and cold … has been a theme in Sir Thomas Leaf’s experience of Summer in Norway.

- In its 7th year … The Chronicles of Sir Thomas Leaf are back … The Great Walkabout Down under and Sailing the Seven Seas will be on hold in its completion for the time being due to funding & time it takes to process the photos, write, and design the pages – these tales should resume back in production come August 2012. Meanwhile, we are focusing on current journeys of Sir Thomas Leaf … hopefully (funding dependent) … live … day to day … If you’d like to see this happen, NOW is the time to pledge support or send in your donations as Sir Thomas will be journeying on the tightest shoestring he has yet travelled on … A $5 donation will buy him a chai where he can get online and weave you a tale with photos … otherwise, you’ll have to wait as fate allows publishing … But we digress … Lets begin … the Chronicles of Sir Thomas Rhymer … and a Viking Tale … This is to replace the failed funding project of the Pirates which couldn’t happen like we wanted it to so is being replaced by this adventure, which will ‘eventually’ be turned into a book …
