Description
A single natural mammal vertebra, most likely deer (Odocoileus virginianus); the identification as deer is a best guess based on size and shape. It looks like a thoracic vertebra, with a tall, slender spinous process (the spine that points up), long side wings (transverse processes) and an open spinal canal. The surface is weathered, with a creamy, chalky tone and darker brown staining, natural cracks and a few rough edges. The photos show the piece from behind, from the side and from above, so you can see the tall spine, the wings and the canal.
