Description
A weathered piece of natural bone, most likely cow (cattle, Bos taurus); the identification is a best guess based on size, density and shape. It is the flared joint end of a long bone with the shaft broken off, and the exact bone is uncertain (it resembles part of a large limb bone such as a proximal tibia or humerus). The surface is weathered in tan, cream and brown tones with fine natural cracks, pits and a few small nutrient holes (foramina). The broken shaft end is splintered and shows honeycomb-like spongy (cancellous) bone inside. The photos show the joint end, both faces and the broken end.
