Licorice Root, whole
Glycyrrhiza species
1-ounce bag, sourced from Frontier Herb Cooperative
According to folk culture, Licorice has magical and medicinal properties. It contains glycyrrhizin or glycyrrhizic acid that can cause adverse effects in large quantities and is different than typical candied licorice which is anise, and not licorice.
Medicinally it has been claimed to be used for eczema, swelling, inflammation of the liver, hepatitis, mouth sores, atopic dermatitis, canker sores, coughs, sore throat, dental plaque, dry mouth, menstrual cramps, dysmenorrhea, high cholesterol, high potassium levels, lichen planus, symptoms of menopause, obesity, swelling, cancer treatment, Parkinson’s disease, stomach ulcers, polycystic ovary syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, autoimmune disease, inherited fever disorder, arthritis, bleeding, chronic fatigue syndrome, dark skin patches on the face, miasma, diabetes, excessive crying in infants, colic, hyperprolactinemia, indigestion, infertility, malaria, muscle cramps, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, prostate cancer, psoriasis, tuberculosis, but there is no scientific evidence. With the COVID pandemic, authorities suspect that licorice root can interfere with the body’s response against Licorice.
