It wasn&#8217;t a sudden decision. This departure had been carefully planned, responsibly executed, and thoughtfully transitioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wrote and published a <strong>Curation Manual<\/strong> to guide those who would take over my responsibilities, ensuring continuity and stewardship of the archaeological collections and GIS systems I had helped manage. I trained replacements, completed outstanding projects, and gradually stepped back from the role that had defined much of my professional life.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/technotink.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/cover-1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48589\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But something else had been calling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For years, I had envisioned a tall sailing ship; a vessel not just for travel, but for a purpose. A ship that would sail from port to port, carrying an onboard historical museum, live-action swordplay, pirate theater, and educational experiences. A ship that would fund itself through entertainment, storytelling, and living history.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/technotink.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/piraterelief-flag2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48590\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3378482098514606;width:375px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That vision became <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.piraterelief.com\">Pirate Relief<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea was simple but ambitious:<br>A tall ship.<br>A traveling historical experience.<br>A floating community.<br>A life at sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But before committing to that dream, I needed to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Could I live aboard a tall ship?<br>Could I sleep in hammocks?<br>Climb rigging?<br>Stand night watch?<br>Swab decks?<br>Live as part of a crew?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"48591\" src=\"https:\/\/technotink.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/042711-129-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48591\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"48592\" src=\"https:\/\/technotink.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/050911-001-1024x696.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48592\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"48593\" src=\"https:\/\/technotink.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/050911-002-1024x723.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48593\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I booked passage aboard the <strong>replica of Captain Cook\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sea.museum\/en\/whats-on\/our-fleet\/endeavour\">HMB Endeavour<\/a><\/strong>, during its circumnavigation of Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My role aboard the ship would include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Night watch security<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tour guide for the onboard museum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Active sailing crew<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My assigned leg:<br><strong>Brisbane to Gladstone, Australia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would be the perfect test of a &#8230; real-world trial of the Pirate Relief vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But before Australia\u2026 there were goodbyes.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/technotink.net\/chronicles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/040111-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48594\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DECAM Farewell &#8230; Fort Carson<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day began with a going-away gathering with colleagues from the <strong>Directorate of Environmental Compliance and Management (DECAM)<\/strong>. Friends, coworkers, and fellow archaeologists gathered for food, drinks, and stories, celebrating both the work we had done together and the adventure ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was excitement, curiosity, and a bit of disbelief. This was another community that had shaped my life &#8230; artists, dreamers, builders, performers, and fellow travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If DECAM represented my professional world,<br>The Inkqbator represented my creative one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, the Pirate Relief dream made perfect sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Music played, drinks were raised, hugs were shared, and conversations stretched late into the night. These were the people who understood why someone would leave stability to pursue adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they would do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was laughter, celebration, and the quiet awareness that something significant was beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery aligncenter roundhouse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three Wishes Fairy Festival<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Searching for holy wells and sacred sites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploring England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This wasn&#8217;t just a trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was a transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
