The Birth of Young Thomas<\/B>

\nFebruary 24, 1968<\/I><\/p>\n

In the year MCMLXVIII, on a Monday morning, during a leap year, Young Thomas was born to Lady Patricia. Young “Thomas” was born as a asthmatic “bubble baby”. A Pisces sun sign, with a Capricorn Moon, and a Taurus rising. The poor babe did not know much of the world he was being born into as he was named after the Catholic Saint “Thomas” … “the doubter”, who doubted Jesus when he arose from the dead. <\/p>\n

It was a violent year when Young Thomas’ soul decided to be born. Much happened that year with the Vietnam War – a year of the Vietnam War’s Battle of Khe Sanh, the Tet Offensive, Phong Nhi\/Phong Nhat massacre, the My Lai massacre, Catonsville Nine bombing the Selective Service offices, and is when the First Battle of Saigon ended. On the Day he was born, the Tet Offensive was halted and South Vietnam recaptured Hu\u00e9. The Ha My massacre occurred the next day. Many natural disasters affected the world, most notably the Arenal Volcano erupting in Costa Rica, and a devastating earthquake in Sicily killing over 380. The Mauritius achieved independence from Britain and the Nauru declared independence from Australia and Romania split up into 39 counties while Swaziland became independent. It was a year of great changes. 1968 saw many protests, violent demonstrations, and movements. It was a time of great action. It was the year of the first statewide teacher’s strike in the U.S. It was a time when the civil rights movement had much conflicts and protests as well as demonstrations against the Vietnam War. It was the year that Martin Luther King Jr. was shot dead resulting in major riots across America. This year saw major shoot-outs between the Black Panthers and Oakland police resulting in numerous arrests and deaths. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968 that year. Robert F. Kennedy was shot in L.A. after which he died from the wounds. One Million march in Paris resulted with Paris student riots. The Tlatelolco student massacre took place in Mexico just before the Olympics. Civil rights demonstrators in Derry Northern Ireland was baton’d marking the beginning of the Troubles. Second Wave Feminism and the Women’s Liberation began to make waves across the Western World. Aer Lingus Flight 712 crashed en route from Cork to London killing 61 passengers as well as Braniff Flight 352 crashing in Texas killing 85 and the US nuclear sub Scorpio sinking with 99 aboard off the Azores. Apollo 7 was launched as the first manned mission by Nasa to the moon’s orbit. 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered in Washington D.C., Musical “Hair” hit Broadway, and Planet of the Apes was released in theaters. Nuclear Weapon “Boxcar” was tested in Nevada as the biggest detonation of Operation Crosstie as well as France exploding its first hydrogen bomb. Nixon came into power. Anne Stine Ingstad and Helge Ingstad completed excavations of Viking site at L’Anse aux Meadows, while Prof. Richard J. C. Atkinson undertook work at Silbury, broadcasted on BBC Television, and Colin Renfrew began excavations at Sitagroi, Greece. Sally R. and Lewis R. Binford published the “New Perspectives in Archeology”, David L. Clarke published “Analytical Archaeology”, and Erich von D\u00e4niken published Erinnerungen an die Zukunft: Ungel\u00f6ste R\u00e4tsel der Vergangenheit (Chariots of the Gods? Unsolved Mysteries of the Past).
