Usually they turn it off before going to sleep, but getting down to 14 degrees was a bit unbearable. The adventurer\u2019s budget is quite dire, so they have to start conserving cash at hand with going into town to check internet, mail, and phone messages. As they essentially live off the grid, they are out of touch with the rest of the world at the Cliffhanger \u2013 only utilizing rural electric via an extension cord run down through the snow into their shack. Propane heater saving them from the freezing cold of winter. Their host, Sir Kevin has a well in which they retrieve two gallons a day from for drinking and cooking. Around 11 am they tromped up through the snowy path, past Sir Kevin\u2019s, and the fallen tree that hath crushed a ladder that Sir Glen, Sir Kevin, and Sir Miles had fallen the other day. They discovered deer tracks, hints to a kill that Sir Kevin and Sir Miles are awaiting as Sir Glen had delivered them a rifle the other day. Slippery ice and snow along the path with many fallen branches from the weight of the snow snapping the limbs off the trees. Last night another 2-3 inches of fluffy snow fall had landed. The only vehicle they have to get them into town is their explorer, parked in a little shoveled area along the roadway as the entire drive has over a foot of snow and ice preventing driving down towards their house, Sir Kevin\u2019s, nor Sir Miles. Thereby trapping them by a \u201csnow in\u201d for the Sienna van and their merchant cargo trailer. Not that the explorers have any funds to leave with if they had a job offer \u2013 since they have been without income for the last 3 weeks. <P>They started up the Explorer, letting it run and warm up for a good 20 minutes while they shoveled snow around the drive with hopes of making more room to park and pull in. Temperatures have been around 17 degrees \u2013 and below freezing even at the warmer mid-points to the day. They drove on towards the Columbia River where they crossed the bridge into Hood River gaining phone signal. No calls to work nor adventure. They drove to their postal mailbox with no mail awaiting, then dropped by the Dairy Queen as a cheaper alternative to Starbucks for Wi-Fi. After discovering no Amazon orders, No Etsy orders, and no web site orders \u2013 they see a grim future ahead as storage bills and car insurance bills are sure to strike soon. They then explored deeper into Hood River hunting out a place to refill their propane tank. They found a lumber company by the river with the price of $2.28\/ gallon. Filled up their 5 gallon tank and headed back towards the river. <P>Before crossing over, they decided to drop into the Tourist Information Center to get some scope of entertainment and points of interest in the area. They also noticed signs to the Marina, beach, museum, and rest area. Prince Cian really wanted to see the boats and the beach, so down they went. The museum was near closing, so they headed onwards to the rest rooms that were closed for the winter. Taking in some views of the boats on the river, marina, and the bridge they made their way down onto the sand for the young Prince of Endurance to get a chance to play with his car, throw stones into the river, and build sand forts. He was in his glory. It was a nice walking beach with great views of the snowcapped mountains, misty river valley, and the Gorge. After a couple of hours of play on the beach, as darkness fell, they headed back home. A quick bite of dinner, to the warmth of a new propane tank, they watched Gotham and Defiance while Prince Cian delivered his nightly dose of jumping on the bed, playing with cars, reading books, and crazy play before crashing. Sir Thomas Leaf awoke in the wee hours as he does each day to get some writing in.
