Lady Etain got up and prepped his lunch for him while he added layers and got his gear and water together. As the clock hit 6:50 am, he headed out the door to meet up with the crew. The leader of the expedition gave the crew details for the day, they piled into the trucks, and pit stopped at Rabbit Traxx for gas and grub-to-go. They wove their way across the Nevada borderlands into the hills and canyons, four wheel driving across the terrain and making way into their study area for the day. Parked by a mesmerizing creek, temperatures rose first into the 40’s and then the low 50’s as Sir Thomas felt fine to strip the upper layers down to a t-shirt, building up a sweat hiking a click to the first site to record for the day. A moderately sized lithic scatter with a couple of bifaces and projectile points. They then moved on to another scatter, this time with some historic artifacts woven into the mix. Then off north of a grass-covered long winding Spring that was often a watering hole for the few 25 wild horses in the area. A low-density scatter, with a couple of bifaces/projectile points located within. Then on wards to a historical survey marker and cairn that had a historic washboard, can scatter, and glass nearby as well as a moderate size lithic scatter. Lunch was had with the warmth of the sun coming down through the clear cloud-less skies. Recording an area next with a rock outcrop hosting a couple of disintegrating rock art panels and a rock wall. Then figuring out some sort of hand-milled lumber frame with square cut nails, a hand forged screw, hole-in-top cans, purple glass, and brown glass bottle. A few lithics in the area as well as scattering of tin metal. Another lithic scatter and the day was done. A bumpy four-wheeling journey back, the crew signed off their time sheets, and headed back to their rooms. Sir Thomas finished up the Walking Dead and began the task of packing up their gear to prepare for a wintery drive back to central Oregon.

Home: Exploring the Nevada-California Borderlands

Monday, 23 November 2015 Cedarville, California It was around 5:30 am when Sir Thomas Leaf crawled out of bed at the Sunrise Motel on the edge of Cedarville to a frigid, yet beautiful and clear morning.
