80’s Pop, New Wave, and the Madonna Wannabe

Sir Thomas started to move away from heavy metal and more into 80’s Top Pop Music. When he encountered Madonna‘s “Everybody”. He was hooked. He started to get off Usenet as much info about Madonna as he could, MTV video recordings on his VHS, and even saved up money from working at Safeway as a courtesy clerk to buy her first video. He started to stylize himself after her dress. He had the rubber bracelets, the cut-off t-shirts, and pants. His style was also influenced by “New Wave”. He was also very much still into the Roller Disco. After a harsh breakup with his first love, that summer, he spent upstate Nouveau York, where he was working for his cousin as a Mechanic’s apprentice. He tried to get Madonna tickets at her show in Jones Beach, but couldn’t afford them. They were going for $150 on the street. He settled for going to see Howard Jones, with Animotion opening up for them. He was addicted. They quickly became his favorite bands. That summer he also saw Tina Turner with Glen Frey opening up for her. Another big song he was obsessed with at the time was Steve Miller Band’s ‘Abracadabra’ which became his theme song for most of his stage magic performances he did, working out a choreography with the linking rings to that song. While slowly converting over to New Wave, he was still very obsessed with Madonna. Her style began to take over his style. He heard on Usenet of her controversial film when Madonna was younger, and through connections, got a copy of the film “A Certain Sacrifice“. He began collecting everything to do with Madonna. This lasted for a few years.
